Zenith has created a carbon fiber version of its best selling Defy wristwatch — including a carbon bracelet.

Carbon fiber is hardly a new material within the watch industry, however, Zenith’s new Defy Classic Carbon comes with the option of a full carbon bracelet, which is a first for an automatic watch. It’s also available with the option of a rubber strap with a Cordura-effect and a carbon and titanium folding buckle — and the price difference between the two is quite stark — but those that want the ultra-light integrated solid carbon fiber bracelet will have to pay an early adopter premium.

“Up until now, so-called carbon fiber watch bracelets have either been superficial plaques of the composite material fixed to a metal base or reserved for a handful of highly complicated watches produced in very small numbers. With the Deft Classic Carbon, Zenith brings forth an ergonomic and eye-catching solid carbon bracelet to an automatic watch, an unprecedented technical feat and edgy design statement,” according to Zenith.

Presented in a 41 mm diameter Defy case, and powered by the existing Elite 670 SK skeletonized movement, the dimensions and movement are the same as past versions. Zenith’s caliber 670 SK is an automatic movement that beats at 4Hz, measures 25.60 mm in diameter, has a 48-hour power reserve, and has an openworked mainplate and components.

The dial has also been skeletonized and allows the wearer to view parts of the openworked movement — such as the silicon escape wheel and lever — as it drives the hour, minute, seconds hands, and date. Applied hour markers feature a faceted design and have been ruthenium-plated, along with being filled with a white lume that enhances the readability in light or dark.

The total weight of the Defy Carbon Classic with the integrated carbon bracelet is 65 grams, which is impressively light. Water-resistance is 100 meters. Retail is $11,600 on the rubber strap (Ref. 10.9000.670/80.R795) or $19,500 with the carbon bracelet (Ref. 10.9001.670/80.M9000). The Defy Classic Carbon will be available at Zenith Boutiques and retailers as well as its online shop from November 2020.
