Warner Bros. and Kross Studio are celebrating the upcoming animated Space Jam: A New Legacy movie, that’s premiering in theaters on July 16th, 2021 in the US (and on HBO Max) with a collector set.
The Kross Studio x Warner Bros. ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ Collector Set follows a Lucasfilm collab earlier this year, and another Warner Bros. co-creation last year. Similar to the Lucasfilm Death Star timepiece, this features the same 45 mm x 20 mm grade 5 titanium case (12.5 mm without crystal), the same D-ring crown that winds and sets the watch via a flush push-button on the right case flank.
With the same case, dimensions, and functions, naturally, the in-house movement being used is also the same. The time-only display is powered by the manually wound central tourbillon-equipped caliber KS 7000, which beats at 3Hz, has 27 jewels, 203 components, and has a power reserve of 120-hours (thanks to a single oversized barrel).
The innermost dial of the Space Jam Tourbillon is bright blue, with a circular-grained finish, and is most notably laser engraved with the Looney Tunes character icons, as seen in Space Jam, including Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Sylvester, Marvin the Martian, Yosemite Sam, Granny, Taz, Speedy Gonzales, Elmer Fudd, Wile E. Coyote, and Road Runner.
Each set comes with a blue calf leather strap, with black stitching, and a black rubber inlay, and an orange laser abraded rubber strap (with a pebble grain just like a real NBA basketball), with black stitching, and a black rubber inlay. Both straps are delivered with grade 5 titanium deployant buckles. An interchangeable strap system allows a quick and simple strap change with a single click of the quick-release buttons.
In addition to the watch and two straps, as is the case with Kross Studio collaborations, a high-quality collectible case is included as well. The case is crated from oak wood and aluminum, in the shape of a basketball. The closed basket-ball-shaped case — that measures 333 mm tall when closed, 440.5 mm tall when open, 260 mm diameter, 253.7 mm diameter base, and weighs 6,500 grams — raises to reveal the Space Jam Tourbillion inside.
The hands of the Space Jam Tourbillon have been affixed to a peripheral display mechanism orbiting 360° around the tourbillon. The hour hand is made to look like a free throw lane and is marked with a blue emission lume. Some of the movement wheels have been styled like basketballs.
The Space Jam Tourbillon is limited to 10 numbered pieces at a retail price of $100,000 and is available to US buyers exclusively via Cellini in New York City. Each piece arrives inside a bespoke wood crate, with its owner’s book, its certificate of authenticity, and art handling gloves.
