Joe Biden has been seen wearing a variety of watches over the years — from Seiko, Tissot, Omega, and Rolex.
All powerhouse volume brands in the world of watches, and great choices. The Omegas, though, have been the most prevalent in photos. Not only does Biden wear an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch — the same type that went to the Moon in 1969 — but he also owns two Omega Seamaster 300M dive watches, one with a blue dial and another with a black dial.
Why exactly he owns at least three Omega wristwatches is not publicly known. And while Omegas are relatively expensive compared to something like an Apple watch — they’re by no means unattainable like many luxury mechanical watches tend to be. President Obama often wore a quartz-powered Jorg Gray chronograph, which is targeted at the mainstream consumer, and not something any collector would likely ever wear. Whereas Omegas, are a great point to begin collecting mechanical watches.
Why Biden wears so many sports watches, is another question I’m sure many of you have. The President is almost always seen in a suit, and so a dress watch would be a more natural choice. Maybe he just prefers sports watches — and considering the Speedmaster and Seamaster models are well proportioned and thin enough to slide under a cuff, it makes them great all-around watches that can easily be worn with a suit. Interestingly, President Kennedy wore an Omega Seamaster at his inauguration in 1961, and he’s always been considered someone with great taste.
Recently, Biden was seen wearing a Rolex Datejust 41 mm dress watch. So he clearly likes to vary his timepieces, and that’s a good thing. Still, the Omegas, are what stood out to us, and that he wears a Speedmaster Moonwatch that’s Flight Qualified by NASA, hopefully, hints at new space initiatives in his legislative agenda. Most importantly, President Biden’s wristwatch choices definitely qualify him as a “watch guy.”
