This month, Luminox debuted a limited edition version of their Navy Seal collection, the Navy Seal 3500 Gold Limited Edition.
The Navy Seal 3500 comes in an ultra-light, durable, scratch-resistant black Carbonox™ case measuring 45 mm in diameter, accented with gold highlights, giving it a more sophisticated look than the company’s typically sports-oriented designs. A gold coating is utilized on the hands, the crown, the first 20-minute graduations on the unidirectional dive bezel scale, the caseback, the 24-hour scale on the dial, and the Luminox logo at 12 o’clock.
On the caseback, engraved in gold, is the limited-edition number (XXXX/1618) and the Navy SEAL insignia, called the “Seal Trident,” which is given to all those who complete the Basic Underwater Demolition (BUD/S) training. The insignia is actually four symbols in one: the golden eagle symbolizes competence in the air, the pistol represents mastery on land, the trident This for dominance in the sea, and the anchor represents the Navy itself.
“Despite its sophisticated look, the new 3500 Gold is a pure Navy SEAL timepiece at its heart. Officially licensed by the Department of the Navy and created with input from active-duty US Navy SEALs, it is built to withstand anything and everything, and it incorporates Luminox’s Light Technology, making sure that your timepiece is visible in any light conditions for up to 25 years,” according to Luminox.
The watch has a tempered scratch-resistant mineral crystal, and while a mineral crystal is more prone to scratching than a sapphire crystal it’s also less brittle so it will not shatter as easily if severely impacted, plus it’s set below the plane of the bezel (armored), which further protects against damage. The crown is screwed down and the caseback is secured with four screws. The depth rating is 200 meters and the watch comes with two straps, one rubber, and one nylon NATO strap, both with a gold-toned pin and buckle. A quartz battery-powered movement drives the hours, minutes, central seconds, and date.
