Only Watch 2017 takes place today at (8:30 am EST) with 50 one-of-a-kind timepieces being auctioned for charity and 99% of the proceeds going to support research into curing muscular dystrophy. All lots are unique and go for a good cause.

My personal favorite timepiece is the Kari Voutilainen 28S which has a unique solid silver dial with a matte slate-gray color and a sandwich construction with white luminous material underneath the cut-outs for the hour markers.

The look is completed by signature Voutilainen open-tipped Observatory hands that are blue and white with luminous tips for the hour and minutes.

Crafted from titanium that has been fully polished that case measures 39 mm x 11.50 mm.

This Voutilainen basic three-hand watch is anything but basic with a proprietary free sprung balance wheel with a hairspring that has a Breguet overcoil with a Grossmann inner terminal curve, supported by a two-arm balance bridge that is fully polished and allows an unobstructed view of the large balance wheel as it swings to and fro, as well as the two escape wheels that work in sync just below.

Speaking of the escapement system, according to the manuacture, “The watch’s outstanding feature is its escapement; it is the first watch to present two escape-wheels in such a configuration. The escape-wheels provide a direct impulse to the balance through the roller/jewel. This escapement is extremely efficient and requires less energy than traditional lever escapements, offering gains in terms of longevity and stability in everyday use.”

Finishing is a hallmark of any Voutilainen movement and this is no exception with a beautiful frosted mainplate and bridges with hand beveled and polished edges. Screw heads and all steel surfaces have been finished and polished by hand as well.

This will not be the highest selling timepiece of the auction, but it will be one of the most collectible. High-end collectors will surely jump at the chance to own a one-of-a-kind Voutilainen timepiece highlighted by a sporty design that includes a lightweight titanium case and a distinctive sandwich dial.
