Only Watch returns for its ninth biennial edition this November — with “all” proceeds going to support Muscular Dystrophy research.

Biel/Bienne-based family-owned watchmaker Armin Strom returns to Only Watch for a fifth consecutive year, with a unique version of the Gravity Equal Force. Originally introduced in 2019, the Gravity Equal Force represents the world’s first automatic watch with a constant force transmission. Constant power is delivered to the balance which ensures high watchmaking precision.

The Gravity Equal Force Only Watch 2021 uses the existing design and adds some very special elements resulting in a truly distinctive “piece unique.” Visible on the dial and movement sides of the case, the mainplate features a black-plated hobnail guilloche pattern done by hand by Kari Voutilainen, a close friend of Armin Strom’s founders.

Above the guilloche-work is the off-center (located on the left side)  circular-grained gray-toned dial with a sapphire crystal dial printed with the chapter ring, including a small seconds subdial between 7 and 8. Also prominently visible (on the right side of the dial) are the pocket watch-inspired bridges, made from brass and which for Only Watch 2021 have been orange-coated, with the same hue as the skeletonized stainless steel hour and minute hands, and the small seconds hand. It’s worth noting that the hands were manufactured at Armin Strom, and were expertly finished, as much of the movement has been — by hand.

In between the off-center dial on the left, and the three bridges on the right is the gear train and automatic winding micro-rotor. The motor barrel, which has an indicator on the barrel cover, which cleverly displays how much of the 72-hour power reserve remains.

On the backside of the watch, the caliber ASB19’s gear train bridges have been decorated with Geneva stripes, and most notably the brass balance wheel bridge, like the trio of bridges on the dial side, has been given the Only Watch orange treatment.

Every Armin Strom movement is assembled twice, meaning that after the movement has been assembled, it is then disassembled, with each individual part then cleaned, dried, reassembled, and lubricated before being regulated, tested, and returned to the case for final assembly.

As with the regular production Gravity Equal Force, the case measures 41 mm x 12.65 mm and is offered in stainless steel for Only Watch 2021. The Gravity Equal Force Only Watch 2021 is delivered with black fabric strap with orange stitching that matches the orange-coated components — secured by a double folding stainless steel clasp — and adds to its sporty aesthetic.

Armin Strom’s co-founder, Serge Michel, says about the brand’s fifth consecutive participation in Only Watch: “It is gratifying to be a part of something that brings so many great watch brands together. For a brand like ours, which focuses on innovative industry-challenging watches every day, we enjoy challenging ourselves to create something that is worthy of the Only Watch name.”

Only Watch 2021 will take place November 6th, at Christie’s in Geneva.
