Launched at Baselworld 2017, the high-tech Casio G-Shock MRG G2000HT “Kasumi-Tsuchime” Limited Edition features a 3-way automatic time sync feature that uses atomic radio waves, Bluetooth, and GPS to calibrate the time with no input needed from the wearer. The 500-piece numbered limited edition is housed in a rugged all-metal MRG G-Shock case with a unique handmade bezel decorated with a traditional kasumi-tsuchime hammering technique.

3-Way Time Sync

Incredible timekeeping accuracy is achieved by three advanced time-correction systems: terrestrial radio wave reception (Multi-Band 6), GPS satellite signal reception, and Bluetooth® transmission. According to Casio, the most appropriate system is selected automatically depending on the conditions, and the correct time is displayed for the current time zone anywhere in the world.

Additionally, there is the MR-G Connected Smartphone App which shows worldwide for over 300 cities as well as the watch status display, including battery levels.

Kasumi-Tsuchime “Hammer Tone”

The MRG-G2000HT bezel and the bracelet center links are decorated with indentations that are created with a special hammer and patterned by bold but delicate strokes of craftsmen’s hands applying traditional kasumi-tsuchime metal hammering.

This forging technique, in which metal is pounded with a hammer, has traditionally been used to finish armor and copperware. The artisanal technique has been passed down to modern times by skilled masters of the craft through a history of over 1,200 years.

Bihou Asano is among these distinguished masters. Born into a Kyoto family steeped in this tradition, he continues to create products using the traditional techniques, while also undertaking restoration and reproduction of national treasures of the metalworking arts.

The bezel features a blue DLC coating, specifically Japan Blue indigo, a representative color in Japanese traditional craftsmanship.

Clad Guard Structure

The crown, buttons and guard parts are integrated to reinforce shock resistance. αGEL®* is packed into the crown’s head cover, moreover, to mitigate shocks to the crown itself.

Magnetic resistant (ISO 764 standard-compliant)

A magnetic-resistant plate installed in the module prevents stoppage or shifting of the hands due to magnetic forces in everyday use without interfering with radio wave reception.

Super Illuminator (High-brightness LED light)

The dial is illuminated by a high-brightness LED that ensures visibility in the dark.

Dual disk displays

The date and function displays are operated by two independently driven disks.

Multi-layer dial

The powerful face design conveys an impression of depth. Its luminous 3D hour index is accompanied by the multilateral-cut hour and minute hands.

Shadow-dispersing solar panel

A shadow-dispersing solar panel realizes superior power-generation efficiency.

Sapphire crystal

A high-transparency, abrasion-resistant sapphire crystal with a non-reflective coating is installed to ensure clear visibility.

Metal plate & serial number

The designation “2017 LIMITED” is engraved on a special metal plate, and one of 500 worldwide limited edition serial numbers are engraved on the case back.

6-motor drive including 2 dual-coil motors

Six motors driving the hands and disks independently achieve nimble operation. The small hand and city code disk in the World Time display are driven by a pair of dual-coil motors that realize unique hand movements by speeding up the display and varying the tempos of hand movements.

Summary

This is one of Casio’s most high-tech, rugged, and luxurious timepieces. Tough solar power and 3-way time sync keep the watch powered and precisely calibrated no matter where you are in the world, with dual time displays and over 300 cities available. Shock resistance is industry-leading, like all G-Shock timepieces. A smartphone app allows you to monitor settings and makes adjustments, such as Home Time/World Time switching to over 300 cities. There is a stopwatch. The water-resistance is 200 meters. The battery should last 6-months even without exposure to light. Further adding to the distinctiveness of this 500-piece limited edition is the hammer tone technique which merges old-world craftsmanship with and modern technology. (Ref. MRG-G2000HT-1A)
