Breitling has just announced a very nice addition to their vintage inspired Transocean collection, the Chronograph GMT. We have been big fans of the Transocean line because while not paying homage to any specific vintage piece, the styling of these watches are a perfect nod to Breitlings of the past and have authentic vintage styling cues.
The guilloche dial is available in either silver or black and although this watch is displaying a lot of information with the main time, chronograph, GMT function, and date, the dial layout is very clean and legible. Small luminescent hour markers and hands ensure night visibility as well. The 18K gold Breitling “B” logo on the dial and signed crown are inspired by Breitlings from the past and fit the vintage theme perfectly.
In addition to a 12 hour chronograph accurate to 1/4th second and calendar functions, Breitling has added a second timezone tracking 24 hour hand. This 24 hour hand can be set to your home time zone and because it is displayed in a 24 hour format you will always know the time back home and whether it is day or night.
When entering a new time zone the traveler can simply pull out and turn the crown either forward or backward and via the Breitling patented mechanism the hour hand will jump in one hour increments making setting your watch to a new time zone extremely fast and simple. The movement will continue to run while setting the hour hand meaning your watch stays perfectly accurate even while adjusting for different time zones.
The understated case has a beveled bezel, slender lugs, and traditional pump pushers. It measures 43mm in diameter and is water resistant to 100 meters, the convex shaped sapphire crystal is glareproofed on both sides. Through the sapphire caseback you can view the entirely in-house built Breitling Caliber B04, an automatic 47 jewel movement beating at 4hz. It has an impressive power reserve of over 70 hours and has been COSC certified.
Breitling offers 3 strap choices in Barenia leather, crocodile, or the steel mesh Ocean Classic bracelet (steel case only). The Transocean Chronograph GMT will be issued in a limited series of 200 in red gold for $23,750 and 2000 in stainless steel for $8,465 on a leather strap and $8,950 on bracelet.
