This summer, the Swatch Group-owned high-end diving centric watch brand Blancpain, released the Bathyscaphe Mokarran Limited Edition — dedicated to protecting hammerhead sharks.

Promoting ocean research and preservation that many watch brands are part of and that aligns particularly well watches made for diving and water sports.

Blancpain has an ongoing ocean support program called the Blancpain Ocean Commitment (BOC) and $1,000 of the proceeds from each of the  Bathyscaphe Mokarran Limited Edition watch will be specifically designated to support the study of hammerhead sharks in French Polynesia. The watch is limited to 50 pieces — available exclusively in Blancpain boutiques in New York and Las Vegas, USA — which means a total of $50,000 that will be donated to the Mokarran Protection Society.

Blancpain Bathyscaphe Mokarran Limited Edition

The special model takes an existing 43 mm satin-brushed black ceramic Bathyscaphe Diver’s watch and gives in a new green dial and green unidirectional ceramic bezel.

A raised beveled sapphire crystal, screwed sapphired caseback, and screw-down crown, along with gaskets seal the case from water down to a rated 300 meters.

Inside is Blancpain 4Hz automatic caliber 1315 which has a 120-hour power reserve, beveled polished bridge edges, and a special blackened matte oscillating weight with a shark motif and edges in relief finished with vertical brushing that’s contrasted by frosted surfaces on the lower level.  (Ref. 5005-0153-NABA)
