This year at Baselworld 2017, Victorinox unveiled a new limited edition version of the Airboss mechanical watch with the military time printed under the sapphire crystal in red. Military time is a signature of all Swiss Army Victorinox timepieces and this is a new and interesting way of displaying it.

The Airboss Limited Edition case measures 42 mm in diameter and is made of stainless steel. The sapphire crystal on the dial side features a tripled-coated anti-reflective coating for enhanced legibility in all conditions, as you would expect for a watch named after an aircraft carrier’s flight deck controller.

A sapphire crystal caseback offers a view of the ETA 2824-2 automatic caliber, that features a “grinded” finish and which runs at 4Hz with a 38-hour power reserve.

Although it is hard to tell, the dial is a dark navy color, not black. A nod to the meticulous attention to detail that goes into designing every Victorinox timepiece, or knife.

The entire outer chapter ring is snailed and has luminescent applied Arabic numerals except at 12 and 6, which instead have the Swiss Army shield logo and a triangle, respectively. Large sword-shaped luminescent hands indicate the hours and minutes, with a long red center seconds hand. The flange has a 0-60 graduation for reading minutes/seconds.

At 6 o’clock is a date aperture, which visually intersects with the red 24-hour military scale that is printed on the underside of the crystal. Makes you wonder if the date should just be omitted altogether.

The retail price is $995 on the canvas strap (as shown) and $1095 on a steel bracelet. Availability is expected in October 2017. Each version is limited to 250 pieces and delivered in a special limited edition box.
