BALL Engineer Master Diver TMT Limited Edition DLC

Engineer-Master-II-Diver_-1_fr.jpg

[ via Ball ]

The new Engineer Master II Diver TMT uses a Ball Caliber 9018 automatic movement, and is guaranteed to function at temperatures of -40 to 140°F (-40 to 60°C) without any affect on accuracy. The stainless steel case is 42 mm in diameter and is coated with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon). This coating makes the case very scratch and corrosion resistant, as well as giving it a beautiful gunmetal grey color.

The TMT has a very cool mechanical thermometer that displays temperatures of -35°C to 45°C. The movement is anti-magnetic 4,800 A/m and shock resistant to 5,000 G's. The case is water resistant to 300m and comes with a unidirectional inner bezel for diving. There are 53 micro gas tubes on the hour, minute and second hands, and the dial, for excellent nighttime visibility. The crystal is anti-reflective with a solid screw-down caseback. The strap is black rubber with a buckle.

The watch is dedicated to Ball brand ambassador Guillaume Nery, so the caseback is engraved with his name. The watch also comes with a handmade miniature (1:8 scale) replica of the monofin Guillaume uses while diving.

MSRP $3499.00

Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA by ROLEX

SeaDeep2_Cr_fr.jpg

[ via Rolex ]

The Rolex Sea-Dweller, always my favorite Rolex, debuted at Baselworld 2008 with the new designation, "DEEPSEA". Its name comes from the "Deep Sea Special", the experimental prototype that in 1960 reached a depth of 10,916 metres in the Mariana Trench. For 2008 the engineers at Rolex SA made the Sea-Dweller bigger, more water-resistant and essentially changed about everything, except the ultra reliable 3135 in-house movement.

MSRP $8999

Here is a full list of the changes made to the original Sea-Dweller:

  • The updated case is slightly larger at 43mm in diameter.
  • The crystal is now a domed sapphire.
  • An all new ceramic bezel was added, the numerals and the graduations are filled with platinum through the use of a PVD technique patented by Rolex.
  • The zero marker of the graduated bezel, represented by a triangle, is visible longer due to a capsule containing a new luminescent material that emits a blue glow.
  • To enhance legibility, the indexes and hands are wider and partially coated with the same new luminescent material and also emit a blue colour.
  • The movement features a new Parachrom hairspring with high resistance to shocks and magnetic fields.
  • The case back is made of a titanium alloy, an extremely resistant stainless material. It is held in place against the high-performance ring by means of a 904L-steel ring.
  • A nitrogen-alloyed stainless steel ring was added to help withstand the pressure exerted by water on the crystal and the case back.
  • A new Glidelock clasp allows for fine adjustments to the bracelet length, up to 18 mm by increments of 1.8 mm, without removing the watch. (pictured above)

[ via Favre-Leuba ]

Here is the official release from the re-launched Favre-Leuba.

More than 40 years after its revolutionary impact on the world of diver's watches, the legendary Bathy is making a major comeback in an automatic version! Its innovative depth gauge works on a beryllium copper membrane which contracts under the pressure of the water entering the double back. The deviation is less than 0.18%! Such precision - pushed to its limits in the most extreme conditions - is one of the hallmarks of Favre-Leuba, a company that has been making watches for almost 300 years.

Engineer Master II Diver GMT Black by BALL

Ball_Diver5_cr_fr_2.jpg

[ via Ball ]

Guillaume Nery is a three-time free dive world record holder and brand ambassador to Ball Watch Company. He makes dives without assistance or equipment on a regular basis to depths of 100 meters (330 feet). This is not only hard to do, it is hard to see while doing it. The ambient light is about 1% of surface light at these depths. This is where the 53 micro gas tubes (tritium) come in very handy and why he uses the EMII Diver GMT watch. The watch has a rotating inner bezel the utilizes 41 of the gas tubes with the remaining 12 being placed on the hands and dial. This illumination setup is very beneficial and allows divers to see their watch at any depth.

BELL & ROSS Instrument BR02 - 1000 M

[ via Bell & Ross ]

Here is a new professional diving watch designed by Bell & Ross to be extremely readable and water resistant. The BR02 watch is fitted with photoluminescent large hands and indexs to make it easier to read while deep sea diving. The unidirectional inside bezel graduated to 60 mn is marked by photoluminescent indexs and provides great visibility when underwater. The water resistance is 1,000 M and during deep sea diving, its decompression valve balances the pressure inside the case with pressure outside the case. The BR02 Instrument also provides optimum comfort through the ergonomics of the case and the flexibilty of the strap. The case is 44 mm in diameter and is made of a 316L glass bead blasted steel with a vacuum carbon black finish. The crystal is anti-reflective to make sure visibilty is not impaired. This new dive watch from Bell & Ross costs a little over $4800 which seems a little steep considering you can find a Bell & Ross Hydromax for well under three grand.

OFFICINE PANERAI Luminor 1950 Submersible Depth Gauge

Officine Panerai originally supplied the first divers' watches and depth gauges to the Italian Navy back in the 1950's. Now Panerai has created the Luminor 1950 Submersible Depth Gauge, which combines both measuring devices in one instrument. This divers' watch has an automatic movement which is officially certified as a chronometer by the (C.O.S.C.). On top of the chronometer certification the depth gauge calibration has also been individually tested by the Swiss Federal Office for Metrology (METAS). The 47mm case is made of titanium and is water-resistant to 120m. The depth gauge operates from what is essentially an independent movement that is electronic for extreme accuracy and reliablitiy. The depth gauge is actually powered by a lithium battery and can be activated by a push-piece at 10 o'clock. The gauge even has a memory function to record your depth. This is a really nice watch with some really cool features. Read More....

OMEGA Planet Ocean 'Orange Mécanique' Chrono

[ via Omega ]

The new Orange Mécanique Planet Ocean by OMEGA is a COSC certified chronometer with orange sapphires and white diamonds. This particular model retains the original diver's watch functions, including a helium escape valve and a water resistance of 600m/2000ft. The watch has a white gold dial which is overlaid with black mother-of-pearl the contrasts nicely with the bright orange sapphires and alligator strap. They used a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides for optium clarity. I like the combination of a professional watch with the fashion of sapphires and diamonds.

BATHYS Hawaii 100 Fathom Automatic Dive

Check out this beautiful shot of a BATHYS Hawaii 100 Fathom Automatic Dive watch in Ultraviolet PVD. This automatic version is a steal at $775 and an even better bargain is the quartz version at $375. Founded in 2005 BATHYS watches are designed in Hawaii and Swiss Made.
At these prices it is hard to argue that anything more is needed, but my only suggestion would be to make the buckle into a clasp design so it is easier to take on and off.

Below is an up close photo of the Ultraviolet PVD buckle.

Sinn U2

The Sinn U2 case is made out of German submarine steel that is guaranteed to be corrosion-proof, as well as impervious to salt water. The bezel is almost scratch-proof due to a process called "Tegiment" which causes steel to harden to ceramic levels. It is a GMT, which is very convenient if you are not in your home time zone. I am not sure the dial and look really appeals to me, but the 2000m dive depth, German engineering and GMT function definitely does.
